Manhasset High
School students are always ready to lend a helping hand.
The Outpost, Manhasset
High Schools general store opened in 2002. Teaching the students involved to
be responsible and charitable. Leaving them all with a sense of
accomplishment. Mike Koondel, Middle School English teacher and student government advisor asked the
students to come up some ideas to raise money for charity. Anthony DeMarinis pitched the idea of a school store. With Mr. Koondels guidance Anthony presented his idea to Activities dictector Kenneth Dunn and Middle school
Principal
Richard McMahon. They liked the idea very much. The Outpost has become a separate activity form student
government.
For
the past three years Kenneth Massetti, high school Social Studies teacher has been the Outpost advisor. Under his guidance
approximately 30 students have received community service credit through the Outpost. Anthony DeMarinis, now in his junior
year remains the general manger. In the past 3 years over $9,000.00 has been raised. Giving donations to 13 charities.
This year The Outpost has
already had a very strong start, expanding there business to custom clothing orders for the locate sport teams and other events.
For the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund alone they have raised 3,446.00. The Outpost will also be participating in the “Adopt
a town” event, which is where Manhasset School District
will be raising money and donating clothing to families who have been hit by the Hurricane disaster. Lets hand a helping hand
to our fellow Americans!
The Outpost sells
snacks, cold drinks, ice cream, and Manhasset Indian Wear.
The Outpost is located
in the High School Gymnasium Hallway.
